A Modern Batik Art workshop inspired by David Kibuuka

Description:

 

Inspired by Ugandan artist David Kibuuka, this multi-discipline workshop teaches particpants to create Afrofuturistic batik fabric art and design. Students will learn how African patterns carry messages and design future-inspired “dream cloths.”

 

Age Group: Ages 9+

Duration: 3 sessions (2–3 hours each)

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  1. Learn about the history of dye art and design in Africa.

  2. Learn modern batik techniques pioneered by David Kibuuka Lumu and his late brother Henry Lumu.

  3. Understand how symbols preserve cultural memory

  4. Express futuristic visions grounded in heritage and nature
