EMBARK ON A JOURNEY.
AstroSankofa Arts Initiatives is a federally incorporated not-for-profit organization and artist collective that engages the Afrofuturistic themes of sankofanology and solarpunk in community art interventions such as public art installation and murals as well as web 3 activities. Working across Canada and internationally, AstroSankofa supports professional and emerging Black artists providing them with mentorship, transferable skills and career building opportunities through collaborations and a series of programs. In addition to our projects we seek to support the next generation of creatives by offering workshops and special programs for youth and in schools. Each initiative seeks to reinstate the power of arts, celebrate Black Canadian stories as well the Black community's connection to their ancestral roots to improve the collective future.

“Trailing Change” is Just J. Art contribution to an installation created by @artisticperceptionca x @astrosankofa
[[[ A little insight on my process + BTS … Featured in this post is the studio visit to see the printed work before installing. Everyone’s work was so beautiful🥹
The installation represents heritage, emancipation, and contributes to the notion of watering our freedom to grow as people of African descent.
I was to create a scene that depicts four people in the Canadian community who have contributed to activism, community building, change-making, and heritage preservation.
The artwork that came out of it was “Trailing Change”, showcasing figures who have sowed these seeds within the Canadian community. In the background, they are in action doing the work that leads to great transitions. In the middle is a path symbolic of the long road it may take to see a difference, but along that road is growing bushes and trees that show with time comes flourishing.
In the foreground, a flower is nurtured. A symbol of growth and continuity of a progressive community that we hope will bloom into gardens of dozens more.
FAHWHODIS…Astro Black Joy can be seen at Emancipation Park in Brampton, Ontario, Canada
Artworks on the istallation done by @artisticperceptionca , @komiolaf , @jason_obrien_gallery_live & @justj.art
Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of this beautiful, historic project & congrats to all the artists & people behind the scenes for making this happen & showing their everlasting support✨🙏🏾 ]]]
