ABOUT THE WORKSHOP PROGRAM

BECOMING VISUAL GRIOTS - PIECING TOGETHER YOUR FUTURE STORY

For this multi-day workshop participants will be introduced to the concepts of Afrofuturism, digital compositing, and storytelling through digital visual mediums. By engaging in hands-on activities and utilizing various digital tools, students will have the opportunity to create their own futuristic worlds and narratives.

OBJECTIVE

The workshop's main objectives are as follows:

  • Familiarize students with the principles and significance of Afrofuturism as a genre that combines elements of African culture, science fiction, and technology.

  • Introduce students to the concept of digital visual storytelling and its role in conveying narratives and ideas.

  • Provide students with practical knowledge and skills in digital compositing in 2D and 3D, a technique used by industry-leading companies such as Marvel Studios and Ubisoft Games to develop immersive futuristic environments.

  • Cultivate creativity and critical thinking abilities by encouraging participants to explore visual metaphors and express their ideas through digital collage-making.

  • Foster collaboration and presentation skills by providing opportunities for students to showcase their digital composites and receive feedback from their peers.
